I'm Walker Tex, and along with my longtime collaborator Wilson Lyons, we make up an alt country / dark country a duo rooted in honest storytelling and a deep love for the genre’s old soul — but we like to give it a modern, cinematic edge.
Wilson and I first crossed paths as teenagers growing up in Northern Ireland, and bonded over the kind of songs that say more in a few lines than most folks say in a lifetime. Since then, we’ve been carving out a sound that blends the grit and warmth of classic country with the texture and space of modern Americana.
I bring the vocals — shaped by years playing in the music scenes of Ireland, Scotland and Northern Ireland — Wilson brings a beautifully intricate guitar style that cuts right to the heart. Together, we write songs that feel nostalgic but never stuck in the past — rooted in tradition, but always moving forward.
We’re lucky to be joined in the studio (and sometimes on stage) by malleus incus stapes, a phenomenal producer, drummer, and vocalist based in Athens, Georgia, who runs Ear Bonez Studios. His production brings a cinematic depth that’s become a big part of our sound.
We’ve also had the pleasure of collaborating with country music and folk artists artists like Pedal Steel Noah, Copper Kelly, and Kenan Flannery — each bringing their own magic to the mix and helping shape the direction we’re heading.
Whether we’re playing stripped-back acoustic sets or full-band shows, our focus is always on the story, the emotion, and the connection. We’re proud to be part of a new wave of country and Americana that honors where it came from — but isn’t afraid to explore what comes next.
After a run of successful sessions in the studio and some exciting collaborations with artists across the UK and Ireland, our music is starting to find its way out into the world. You can now hear Walker Tex & Wilson Lyons on stations like UK Country Radio, Islington FM, Smart Country Radio, Radio Ashford, Kfug FM, Hot FM, and Phoenix FM — and we’re incredibly grateful for the support from presenters and listeners alike. country music has always been at our core! Especially dark country.
On the live front, we’ve had the chance to play some incredible venues recently, including King Tut’s in Glasgow, Whelan’s in Dublin with 2 sold out nights (gotta plug it ;-) ), The Bunker, and a brilliant set at the Vanlife Big Eats Festival. We also had a fantastic reception in Rouen, France, during our recent two-night stop — so much so, we’re planning to head back out on the road again very soon.
We’re now actively looking to expand our gig calendar — from support slots and festival stages, to radio sessions and intimate showcases — and would love to bring our dark-country/Americana sound to new audiences.
If you're looking for a live act with heart, grit, and strong songwriting — or a fresh voice for your next radio session or lineup — we’d be glad to chat.
Thanks for listening, and hope to see you down the road.
